About the Artist

John Ball's training began with childhood drawings at the kitchen table for his parents. An early love of drawing was followed by grade school art classes in England and Ohio. Later in Florida he earned a degree in commercial art from Pensacola Christian College. Upon graduating, John produced art for ABeka Publishing. There, John was able to hone his talent and work alongside his teacher and mentor, nationally known artist Brian Jekel. While working as an illustrator, John continued to paint from life and received direction from such nationally known artists as Daniel Gerhartz, and Ralph Oberg. At the same time, his paintings began to be received in exhibitions and galleries around the country. John has received awards from: Plein Air Magazine-Salon Juried Show, Raymar Art contest, Art Renewal Center Annual Salon and Boldbrush Art Contest.

Today, John works and teaches in a variety of mediums, mostly in water media such as watercolor and acrylic. He is comfortable with oil paint and has sold many paintings in that medium. He also freelances commercial art from his home studio in Pensacola.

John has shown and sold his work in a number of galleries and juried shows around the country including: Alla Prima Fine Art, St. Petersburg, FL, Banks Fine Art, Dallas, TX, Ella Walton Richardson, Charleston, SC, M Gallery (now Principle Gallery) Charleston, SC, Chroma Gallery, Savanna, GA, Greenhouse Gallery of Fine Art (Salon International show) San Antonio, TX, Galerie Kornye West, Fort Worth, TX, Waterhouse Gallery (Annual Invitational Show) Santa Barbara, CA, and Walls Fine Art, (Oil Painters of America show) Wilmington, NC
