Sunset Pointe

Painted on site at Sunset Pointe in Fairhope, Alabama, this 9" × 12" oil on linen was created en plein air, directly in front of the scene. I was drawn to the gentle curve of the land and the way it leads your eye toward the waterfront buildings, with boats, trees, and open sky quietly holding the space together. The light was constantly shifting, and I worked quickly to stay responsive to those changes and capture the calm, everyday beauty of the moment.

Painting outdoors keeps things honest and simple. Instead of chasing detail, I focused on color relationships, temperature, and the overall feeling of being there—warm sun, soft shadows, and a sense of ease along the shoreline. The loose, direct brushwork reflects that experience and the rhythm of working on location.
